PAX 07 Omegathon concludes with Halo 3

A gaming challenge that runs the gamut from the old school to tabletop gaming, the Omegathon truly tests the mettle of its participants. Another aspect that has become a tradition is the top secret final round of the Omegathon. Gamers have come to expect challenges of the old school variety, as the past two Omegathons concluded with PONG and Combat (ask your parents). This year, however, was different. This year, the final round of the Omegathon was Halo 3. Yeah, you read that right. The top two Omeganauts, Accelon and MNC Dover, competed in new Halo 3 maps (Narrows and Guardian) and were able to test out new weapons and items like the firebomb, flamethrower, and flashbang. And to jump start their project, they're offering the first set of presumably numerous community gamer pictures on the XBLM for free. The first set is made up of eight gamer pictures featuring your (other) favorite community sites including the Gamerscore Blog, Gamertag Radio, Achievement Junkie and more. Xbox 360 Games Dominate the Gamefly List
Despite the existence of nine different systems on the Gamefly games roster, customers have overwhelmingly reserved copies of Xbox 360 games, clearing all other systems from the top ten list. Gamefly regularly releases information about the games that customers request the most, and the entire top ten games for all systems is made up of Xbox 360 games, with even Sonic the Hedgehog beating out games from every other system. The transition to next-gen, with consoles from both Sony and Nintendo being nearly impossible to find in stores, is playing a big part in the distribution of titles on the list. Xbox 360 sales skyrocket in Japan
Sales for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 skyrocketed in Japan due to the release of the anticipated RPG Blue Dragon. Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 35,343 units from Dec. 4 to Dec. 10. By comparison the console sold 7,000 units the week prior. Microsoft released an Xbox 360 bundle that included Blue Dragon to generate console sales. The game, including bundle inclusions, sold 80,348 units to rank as the No. 4 selling title for the week. Whilst we await Nintendo's press release which will outline just how successful the Wii launch was in Australia, Microsoft has beaten Nintendo to the punch by confirming that in the week ending the 10th of December the XBox 360 sold $5.8 million worth of games, software and accessories. The consoles alone racked up $2.6 million. David McLean, Regional Director Xbox Australia and New Zealand commented, “In terms of retail revenue, Xbox 360 has generated around $145 million in ANZ this year. We’re pleased to report that despite new competition in the market, sales are showing no signs of slowing down. In a move to benefit customers, Microsoft Corp. announced today that it will change the Xbox 360™ warranty from 90 days to one year from the date of purchase in the United States and Canada.
